Haven Kiln Park Review – Our Family Holiday in Tenby, Wales
A four-night Easter break, a Silver caravan, plenty of activities for the children and one of the most beautiful seaside towns in Wales on our doorstep. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, The Hadwins headed to Haven Kiln Park in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, to find out whether this popular holiday park really is worth booking for a family break.
As always, we explored the accommodation, swimming pools, entertainment, activities and restaurants, sharing what we genuinely thought rather than just showing you the best bits.
And while there were plenty of positives, not everything impressed us.
Our Silver Caravan – Better Than Expected!
Let’s start with one of the highlights of our stay – the accommodation.
We booked a Silver four-berth caravan, and from the moment we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised.
It was comfortable, spacious enough for our family and came with decking, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area, comfortable seating and two bathrooms, one with a shower.
The beds were comfortable, and bedding was included, which was a bonus.
However, towels and washing-up essentials weren’t supplied, so it’s worth packing your own rather than paying extra at the onsite shop.
And despite having two bathrooms, we were provided with just one toilet roll.
Whether that was an oversight or Haven trying to save a few pennies, we’ll never know. But it certainly gave Scott something to moan about!
Our caravan rating: 8/10.
Swimming Pools, Entertainment and Family Activities
Kiln Park has plenty to keep families occupied, particularly if you’re travelling with younger children.
There’s an indoor swimming pool, which we found lovely and warm, complete with a small slide. It was enjoyable, although around an hour was enough for us.
The park also has an outdoor swimming pool and splash area, but these were closed during our Easter visit in April. If you’re booking specifically for the outdoor swimming facilities, we’d recommend checking the seasonal opening dates before travelling.
Away from the pools, there’s a good selection of activities, including mini golf, archery, climbing, basketball, creative activities and entertainment for children.
The onsite arcade was another popular attraction, although anyone with children will know how quickly £20 can disappear when flashing lights and ticket machines are involved!
The prizes might only be sweets and slime, but apparently that doesn’t matter when you’re a child.
Evening entertainment takes place in the Marina Bar, which has a surprisingly large entertainment area, a stage, bingo, children’s shows and visiting acts.
Overall, we thought the facilities offered a decent amount of choice, even if not everything was available during our Easter break.
Our facilities rating: 7/10.
Eating at Kiln Park – A Little Disappointing
When it comes to food, Kiln Park offers several options, including familiar takeaway names, fish and chips and the main Harbwr Lights restaurant.
Unfortunately, this was one area where we weren’t particularly impressed.
We tried both an evening meal and breakfast at Harbwr Lights. Although the restaurant itself was pleasant, we felt the food was fairly average for the prices being charged.
The children’s pancakes were fine, and Scott enjoyed his avocado and egg on toast, but neither meal felt like especially good value.
We also struggled with ordering through the app because of the Wi-Fi connection.
The fish and chips were reasonably priced, although we only discovered that our vinegar was missing once we’d returned to the caravan. Another small disappointment!
Thankfully, the familiar fast-food options helped rescue the overall food experience.
Our food rating: 6/10.
Tenby and Saundersfoot – The Real Highlights
If there’s one reason we’d recommend considering Kiln Park, it’s the location.
Tenby is absolutely beautiful.
With its colourful buildings, fantastic beaches, independent shops, traditional pubs and lovely coastal atmosphere, it’s somewhere we thoroughly enjoyed exploring.
Even during the Easter holidays, we found parking relatively straightforward.
A little further along the coast is Saundersfoot, another lovely seaside town with a beautiful beach, restaurants, pubs and independent shops.
Both places reminded us of some of our favourite Cornish seaside destinations, such as St Ives and Perranporth, but without having to travel quite as far from South Wales.
There are also boat trips, fishing excursions and plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding Pembrokeshire coastline.
For us, Tenby and Saundersfoot were easily the highlights of the entire break.
And they’re definitely places we’d love to visit again.
Would We Return to Haven Kiln Park?
So, after four nights at Haven Kiln Park, would The Hadwins recommend it?
Overall, we gave the holiday park a respectable 7/10.
The Silver caravan was excellent, the facilities were decent and the location was fantastic.
However, we felt the food could have been better, and while the entertainment and activities were enjoyable, the park itself didn’t quite offer enough to make us desperate to return.
Would we recommend Kiln Park to other families? Yes, particularly if you’re looking for a comfortable caravan holiday with plenty for younger children to do and easy access to Tenby.
Would we personally book Kiln Park again? Probably not.
But would we return to Tenby and Saundersfoot?
Absolutely, without a doubt!
Sometimes you discover a holiday destination you love, even if the accommodation or holiday park isn’t somewhere you’d choose for a second visit.
And that was exactly how we felt about this Easter break.
