Imagine arriving at your campsite, taking your tent out of its case and having it inflated in just 30 seconds. No fighting with tent poles, no confusing instructions and, most importantly, no watching Scott lose his patience before the holiday has even started!
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
Well, The Hadwins were given the opportunity to test the Free Croxx Bubble Eye Inflatable Tent, a rather unusual-looking 3–4 person family tent that promised to make camping easier than ever.
And we have to say, this was one piece of camping equipment that genuinely surprised us!
Can You Really Pitch a Tent in 30 Seconds?
The first thing that caught our attention was how the tent arrived. Forget the usual oversized camping bag – this one came packed inside a rigid suitcase!
The idea behind the Free Croxx Bubble Eye is simple. Take it out, connect the supplied pump and inflate.
And yes, the main tent structure really did inflate in approximately 30 seconds during our test.
Of course, there’s a little more involved in setting up camp than simply inflating the tent. But even with the pegs secured, guy ropes in place and the optional inflatable carpet fitted, we managed to have everything ready in around five minutes.
Considering we’ve spent considerably longer trying to work out which tent pole goes where on previous camping trips, this felt like a minor miracle.
Better still, we managed it without reading the instructions!
A Small Family Tent With Some Clever Features
The Free Croxx Bubble Eye is advertised as a 3–4 person inflatable tent, making it particularly interesting for smaller families, couples or anyone looking for a quick weekend camping setup.
At the time of testing, our family consisted of two adults and two children aged 10 and four, and we found there was enough room for our sleeping arrangements.
One feature we particularly liked was the height. At approximately 1.9 metres, there’s enough headroom for many adults to stand comfortably, something you certainly don’t get with most traditional pop-up tents.
It also comes with three doors, each fitted with fly screens, a built-in groundsheet and useful storage pockets.
And then there’s the colour.
Bright orange doesn’t quite describe it. Let’s just say you won’t have much trouble finding your tent on a busy campsite!
The Inflatable Carpet – A Brilliant Idea!
One of the most unusual features we tested was the optional inflatable carpet.
Rather than packing separate camping mattresses or airbeds, the carpet provides a cushioned floor across the sleeping area.
Simply inflate it, throw down your sleeping bags and you’re ready for bed.
Beau and Amybelle certainly approved, finding it surprisingly comfortable to lie on.
For short camping trips, festivals or spontaneous weekends away, this could save a considerable amount of packing space and setup time.
Whether you’d want to replace your normal camping bed for a longer holiday is another question, but for the type of camping this tent is designed for, we thought it was an excellent addition.
Is the Free Croxx Bubble Eye Waterproof and Sturdy?
When we first saw the tent, we did wonder how well an inflatable structure would cope with the British weather.
After all, if you’ve watched our previous camping adventures, you’ll know we’ve experienced more than our fair share of rain and wind!
Free Croxx supplied information stating that the tent fabric had been tested to a hydrostatic head of approximately 5,000mm, carried a UPF 50+ rating and had passed the CPAI-84 flame-resistance test.
During our own testing, we found the tent surprisingly sturdy in windy conditions when properly pegged down and secured with the supplied guy ropes.
However, our experience wasn’t a controlled weather-resistance test, so we’d always recommend checking the manufacturer’s current specifications and using the tent within its stated limits.
And What About Packing It Away?
This was another area where we expected things to go wrong.
Anyone who’s ever tried squeezing a family tent back into its original bag will understand why!
With the Free Croxx arriving in a rigid suitcase, we were convinced that getting everything back inside would be a nightmare.
But once again, we were pleasantly surprised.
Deflating the tent was straightforward, and packing it away proved almost as easy as putting it up.
In fact, our complete pitching and packing-away process took less than 10 minutes.
For anyone who enjoys weekend camping but hates spending ages setting up and taking down their equipment, that’s a pretty impressive result.
So, Is the Free Croxx Bubble Eye Tent Worth Buying?
We test quite a lot of camping equipment, and while some products look fantastic in photographs, they don’t always perform particularly well in the real world.
This tent was different.
We genuinely enjoyed testing it, and the combination of quick pitching, clever design, comfortable inflatable flooring and straightforward packing made it one of the more impressive camping products we’d tried.
There were a few things to consider. The bright orange fabric might mean early morning light becomes an issue, and it’s not designed to offer the same living space as a large family air tent.
But for short camping breaks, festivals and weekends away, we thought it was an excellent idea.
At the time of our review, Free Croxx suggested an expected price of approximately £500–£800, depending on the package and accessories. As this was a pre-release product when we tested it, those figures should not be treated as current prices or confirmation of availability.
Our final rating? An impressive 9/10!
And coming from a family who have spent years putting up tents, taking them down and occasionally arguing about how they should go together, that’s saying something.
